Lille needed an own goal to secure a scrappy 1-0 home win over bottom side Grenoble which lifted them to fourth in Ligue 1.

Northerners Lille, their morale boosted by a 1-0 home win over Liverpool in the Europa League, moved on 51 points from 28 games, two behind leaders Bordeaux, who have a game in hand.

Slovenia defender Bostjan Cesar gave Lille the points when he deflected a cross by Brazilian defender Emerson into his own net with his thigh on 46 minutes.

Marseille dropped to sixth, three points off the pace, with a 1-1 draw at Toulouse.

Brazilian forward Brandao volleyed home from a corner to cut the visitors in front on the half-hour but Toulouse levelled with a superb goal from Portuguese midfielder Paulo Machado, who fired into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Rennes climbed two spots to eighth with a 2-0 win at Valenciennes courtesy of first-half goals from midfielder Sylvain Marveaux and Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan.
